Opportunities are created and goals realized through vision, direction, courage, and hard work.
A safe and orderly environment is necessary for quality education.
All students need at least one adult who recognizes them, cares for them passionately, and takes long-term responsibility for them.
It is the shared responsibility of the student, family, and school district to be active partners in the pursuit of quality education.
All individuals have worth and they are to treat others and be treated with dignity and respect.
Superintendent's Comments
The Pierre School District School Board, administrative team, teachers, and all support staff would like to thank the parents and students for helping us make last year. We will enter the 2023-2024 school year motivated to make it the best school year ever and that will be accomplished when our staff, students, parents, and community maintain the mindset necessary to allow excellence to remain the expectation for all!
The Pierre School District remains committed to continuing its rich tradition of academic and extra-curricular successes! The Pierre School District staff is an extremely dedicated and enthusiastic group who are committed to providing the best possible education opportunities for our students. Our students take pride in their schools, as evidenced by their performance in the classroom, on the stage, and/or athletic arena! Although we continue to receive numerous accolades and awards for our many successes, I am convinced that the Board of Education, administrative staff, teachers, and support staff will not be satisfied with the status quo and will always strive to become even more effective and efficient.
The District is committed to our mission statement: “To Cooperatively Inspire All Students to Achieve Their Potential”. With support and encouragement from family, friends, and Pierre School staff members, every child in our district can excel to levels they never felt possible. Please help encourage our students to put forth the effort necessary to make this happen!
Although I believe we have an outstanding school district, our team is always looking for ways to improve. My door is always open, and I welcome your input and suggestions.
I believe that good years, months, weeks, and days do not just happen; each individual administrator, teacher, support staff, parent, and student must make them happen. That being said:
LET'S MAKE IT A GREAT YEAR!

Notes from the Director of Education
Welcome to the 2023-24 school year. Our staff is excited to have your child in their classrooms. The District’s instructional staff continue to have your child’s best interests in mind when planning each day. Collaboration amongst staff is expected in order to provide a meaningful and relevant curriculum across the grades. You can expect your child to be engaged in lessons that are based on best practices, strong lesson design, and challenges them. The Pierre School District’s K-12 education programs are intended to provide comprehensive, age-appropriate instruction to all students. Highly qualified staff instruct courses that meet State and District learning standards. The Pierre Board of Education continues to support our classrooms with curriculum materials, resources, and technology that are up to date and relevant. This school year, staff that teach Health related curriculum, business, economics, CTE (welding, auto, etc) will be reviewing new materials to implement the fall of 2024. With the School Board’s large commitment of resources and training put into each classroom, your child will have the opportunity to participate in meaningful experiences allowing them to grow academically as well as socially. As parents or guardians, your involvement and support will help them be successful.
For those students in need of additional support, the Pierre School District provides special education and special education with related services to children with disabilities ages three through twenty-one. The state of South Dakota serves children birth through twenty-one if the child is under three and in need of prolonged assistance. Support programs include occupational therapy, psychological services, speech pathology, physical therapy, and autism spectrum assessment, diagnosis and support.
The Pierre School District office of curriculum and special services is here to help support students, parents, and staff. Together as a school community we can provide positive, enriching learning opportunities. If you have any questions, please stop at the District office, email, or call. Enjoy the school year!
