Georgia Morse Middle School

Enter to learn......Go Forth to serve.

Welcome to Georgia Morse Middle School!

Georgia Morse Middle School is the home to the community’s sixth through eighth grade students. GMMS takes great pride in the team approach that is used to serve our middle school students. Each grade level is broken down into two core teams of 100+ students. This creates an environment of smaller groups to better manage and serve over 600 middle school students. Currently the teams consist of Hawkeyes and Wildcats (6th), Huskers and Gophers (7th), and Lions and Spartans (8th). Core teams consist of the Math, Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies teachers that closely monitor student progress. Each core team shares a common team time that allows for collaborative discussion regarding the common 100 students that they teach. This is also an opportune time to interact with students and conduct parent meetings. Each core team has a team website that can be found on the school’s webpage that shares lesson plans with parents along with other important announcements. Our school is engaged in community service projects and many positive relationships with different organizations and groups have been created. We strive to help all of our students be successful. This includes challenging some with higher level math classes in 7th and 8th grades and three opportunities in 8th grade to earn high school credit along with providing intervention time for those that need help to complete homework and be successful. The school has a Work Study program available to all students after school until 3:30 to gain additional teacher assistance and help. All student’s schedules reflect yearlong PE and Health. Encore classes for sixth graders include computers, music, art, literature connections, and band. Seventh and Eighth graders have computers, art, technical education, family and consumer science, chorus, and band for encore classes. GMMS implements a great variety of computer usage in the classrooms. Each core team has a mobile cart of chromebooks to use and, in addition, there are four other computer labs available to use.

Two counselors serve the three grade levels and support student leadership, character education, and citizenship. Student involvement is highly encouraged; opportunities include youth leadership activities, sports, yearbook, acalympics, inclusion activities, and the school musical. A tradition at GMMS is to decorate our lobby area during December and highlighting each team’s outreach to a community organization or group for our school-wide community service project. GMMS’s Parent Group meets during the school year and has supported the efforts and activities at GMMS. The school has both their school web page and a Facebook page to keep parents informed on the happenings at GMMS. We strive to create a positive climate and culture at GMMS that emphasizes meaningful relationships with our students in safe and engaging classrooms that both support and challenge our students.
