T.F. Riggs High School

Welcome to T.F. Riggs High School. We hope your year will be filled with many exciting and rewarding experiences. It is our wish that all students will “enter to learn & go forth to serve”, taking full advantage of the many opportunities available to them.

The policies and procedures contained in this handbook are designed to help establish a positive school climate and to help ensure a successful year at Riggs. It is your responsibility to become familiar with the content of the handbook and we hope you will share it with your parents as well. This information will help you adapt successfully to the school setting. All staff members are anxious to help you achieve academic success and to meet your personal goals. Please feel free to approach them with any questions or concerns.

In addition to your academic studies we encourage you to become involved in the various co/extra-curricular activities available to you. There is ample evidence to indicate that well-rounded, active students are happier and more productive.

All of our interactions at Riggs High School should be based upon mutual respect. We acknowledge the worth and dignity of all individuals involved with the school in any way and our expectations for students are based upon that premise. You alone have the primary responsibility for your conduct, your success and your contributions to your school.

AdvancEd Accreditation

During the 2015 - 2016 school year, T.F. Riggs will undergo a two year review process through the international accreditation organization, AdvancEd, formerly known as North Central Accreditation.

Accreditation is an international protocol for institutions committed to systemic, systematic, and sustainable improvement and is designed to build the capacity of the institution to improve and sustain student learning and stimulate and improve effectiveness and efficiency throughout the institution.

The AdvancEd Accreditation process takes a balanced approach to reviewing schools and is an analysis and evaluation of the impact of teaching and learning, leadership capacity, and resource utilization.

During the spring of 2013 and into the fall of the 2013-14 school year, the T.F. Riggs staff was required to complete an internal review process that involved feedback from students, parents, and staff regarding the quality of education provided at T.F. Riggs High School. An extensive report was filed to the AdvancEd organization upon completion of the internal review for review by the organization and in preparation for the external review team.

During the week of February 24, 2014, T.F. Riggs underwent the external review process for accreditation. An External Review Team, comprised of professional peers with diverse experience and rich contextual perspectives visited Riggs High School.

The External Review Team is assigned the task of determining the institution’s effectiveness in meeting the requirements set forth by AdvancEd for accreditation and for providing analysis and evaluation of our system along with delivering valuable feedback and direction for improvement.

Based upon the review team’s findings, T.F. Riggs has been recommended for accreditation through the AdvanEd organization. This coming school year, 2015-2016 will be the two year interim review for T.F. Riggs High School. We will be assessed on how we are progressing toward goals established and progress being made in areas identified as in need of improvement.
