Minutes for Jefferson Elementary School PTA
May Meeting Minutes
Present: Scott Louis, Kellie Beck, Jackie Heier, Bill Kaiser, Amanda Dodson, Laura Schoen Carbonneau, Beth Davis, Pam Keen, Angie Boddicker, guest Kim Brakke
The meeting was called to order at 12:03p by Scott.
Motion to approve the April minutes was made by Kellie, 2nd by Amanda.
Kellie gave the Treasurer’s Report. She noted eight debits and three credits to the account. She reported that we raised $1,974.00 from the walk-a-thon. Scott made a motion to accept report, Amanda 2nd.
Kim Brakke reported on the eWall of Honor through the Pierre Educational Foundation. Teachers, coaches, administrators, etc. may be honored through donations made on their behalf. The eWall can be found at www.pefgovs.org. Donations made will benefit educational programs and projects in the Pierre School District.
After discussing various fundraising options it was voted on to go ahead with the Classic Cookie fundraiser. They have the greatest margin of profit and a variety of items for purchase. Amanda made a motion to do the fundraiser for one year, Laura 2nd. A vote l was held, 9-1, in favor of this fundraising option. Kellie will contact the representative to move forward. Ideally, the fundraiser would be held early in the school year.
The FFF was a huge hit and Mother Nature cooperated! The gym and school grounds were full of Jefferson families. We had a lot of positive feedback on the activities. As always, we need many volunteers to make this successful and are always looking for more people.
It was decided that instead of a PTA newsletter for May that we would do a year end re-cap of the events and activities the PTA either hosted or sponsored. Kellie is working on the flyer for distribution the last week of school.
Mr. Kaiser reported that the swings have been ordered and will be installed sometime in August.
Kellie reported that we have a significant amount of Scholastic dollars that need to be used. The teachers have requested books for group reading. She will look into getting these items purchased. Another possible option for the dollars is to buy books for the Birthday Book Program the PTA operates.
With the grant from Midco we are one step closer to getting the teacher requested document cameras in the classrooms. Mr. Kaiser will provide a list of how many we need, who currently has them and what brand we need to purchase.
Election of officers was held. Laura moved and Beth 2nd to approve Kellie Beck as President, Scott Louis as Vice President, Amanda Dodson as Secretary and Jackie Heier as Treasurer for the 2013-2014 school year.
Back to School Night and PTA Membership Driver were discussed. We would like to host some type of lemonade/cookie social during the school open house. Due to the fact that were this a lot of information being sent home with parents that night and the first week of class, we will hold off on the membership drive until a later time.
Kellie will follow up with current volunteers for the box tops, milk lids and receipts programs to see if they will continue to coordinate these programs or if we will need to find new coordinators.
The PTA will not meet over the summer.
Meeting adjourned at 12:57pm.
